Talks with Two Authors

Few books have been written solely on performance measurement.  But I recently had the pleasure of chatting with not one but two authors about such works.  Interestingly, in both cases it was the author's first book.  We begin with our guest, William G. Bain.

William G. Bain is now retired and enjoying the bucolic English countryside of Kendal, in Cumbria.  Until recently he worked with the research and consultancy team at The WM Company as a part time consultant. His career as an investment analyst with various stock brokers and merchant banks spanned some 35 years.  His last full time role was as international investment strategist for Wood Mackenzie (now NatWest Securities).  Mr. Bain earned a BSc, in Economics, at University College, London, in 1959.  As a Fellow of the Institute of Investment Management and Research, he helped to establish the education program for analysts in Scotland and as a Research Fellow at the University of Stirling, was associated with the MSc in Investment Analysis.

David Spaulding is publisher and founder of The Journal of Performance Measurement.  He is also president and founder of TSG, which provides management consulting and research services to the money management industry.  He is a frequent speaker and chair of industry conferences, esecially those relating to performance measurement, Mr. Spaulding earned a BA in Mathematics from Temple University, an MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Baltimore.
